Of all dog behavior problems, perhaps the most distressing one is the dog who barks when left alone. Incessant volleys of yips, woofs and whines are an irritant to those who live in close quarters or for those who need some peace and quiet in their life! These latchkey barkers fit several profiles. It is important to determine which one or more describes your dog; misreading the dog may result in a failure to extinguish the problem. continue article…

Photo contest will allow America to vote for their favorite rescued pets for WellPetUSA’s Holiday Calendar, benefiting the Meow Bow Wow fund
DREXEL HILL, PA – August 18, 2008 – WellPetUSA, an animal welfare nonprofit that raises funds to offset the costs of animal rescue groups, is now accepting submissions of photos for its Holiday Calendar photo contest, sponsored by Botanical Animal.
This contest will allow animal rescue groups to submit photos of recently adopted pets or pets still available for adoption. These photos will be open for general public vote and the top 12 photos will be included in the Holiday Calendar whose sales will benefit the Meow Bow Wow fund. The rescue group with the most votes will also receive a special gift pack of flower essences from Botanical Animal, to help treat trauma that neglected or abused pets often suffer.
“This photo contest is a wonderful way for rescues to promote their name and at the same time help raise funds for WellPetUSA’s Meow Bow Wow fund which will ultimately support the medical costs of these rescues and others, if they meet eligibility criteria,” said Heather Read, Chairman and Executive Director of WellPetUSA.
Any rescue group may submit their high resolution photo online at http://tinyurl.com/holidaycalendar . All photos must depict the animal only, and no humans. WellPetUSA will review all photos submitted prior to posting for public vote. Photos will be accepted until midnight September 5, 2008. Public voting will commence on Monday, September 8, 2008. Voting will close on Friday, October 3, 2008.
“Botanical Animal is proud to sponsor this wonderful cause that will help rescue groups in their efforts to care for and place rescued pets,” said Stacey Small, CEO of Botanical Animal. “We also look forward to awarding the winner with a set of flower essences. Our essences help the animals to get through their emotional issues and process and release them in an accelerated time frame. This makes life easier on the pets as well as humans caring for them.”

The Michael Vick Case
TV-14 (V)
“For the first time, we go inside the dogfighting investigation that helped bring down star quarterback Michael Vick…
A Motion was filed in Virginia U. S. District Court to move all but one dog to foster families or sanctuaries. Evaluation reports revealed that only one dog displayed aggression towards humans and numerous dogs presented ‘no threat to other animals.’
Later in October, BAD RAP began a quiet, cross-country road trip with 13 of the Vick dogs who were moving to their new homes in foster care or sanctuaries on the west coast.”

National Dog Day
(Tails Pet Media Group Article)
August 23 is bound to be one doggone good day. Although none of us need a special occasion to celebrate humankind’s best friend, National Dog Day is a time to honor our canine companions. From the law enforcement, service, and bomb and drug detection dogs who put their lives on the line daily, to the millions of shelter animals in search of a forever home, National Dog Day is a reminder that pooches rule.

National Dog Day is the brainchild of animal behaviorist, author, and Animal Miracle Foundation founder Colleen Paige. According to its website, the annual event has already helped save the lives of more than 14,500 dogs. Celebrate the day by taking part in one of several official nationwide events, cheering National Dog Day’s 2008 Great American Shelter Dog Luka (read his story online), or visit your local shelter and adopt a new best friend.
